The Xinjiang County Pu Opera Troupe, which has created brilliance several times in the history of Pu Opera, has gone through a glorious journey of seventy years. The predecessor of Xinjiang County Pu Opera Troupe was the Jiangnan People's Pu Opera Troupe, which was founded in 1947 and led by Yang Hushan, also known as Yang Hushan Troupe. In 1948, it was renamed Xinjiang County Pu Opera Troupe. In 1958 it was changed to Houma Pu Opera Troupe before renaming back in 1961. The main actors include Yang Hushan, Duan Laba, Niu Ruiting, Dong Changbao, Ma Xiaorun, Chang Jiangtang, Liang Huatang, and so on.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the joining of celebrities such as Xiao Lanxiang, Xiao Yanqiu, Song Rongting and Zhu Quansheng enabled the troupe to present a rich repertoire with competent talents, qualified as one of the four top troupes in southern Shanxi.
The rise of second-generation artists such as Tian Yingchun, Li Qin'e, Su Mantun, Guo Bingsen, and Li Ailing, and the emergence of rising stars such as Chai Yuzhen, Wu Junying, Zhang Suosen, Wu Xuequan, Tian E, Zhao Tiancheng, Jia Julan and so on have made the theater dazzling and famous. .
